How to Keep Positive Energy in Your Home in 5 Easy Steps

My home is my fortress. My one bedroom apartment is my personal getaway, my favorite place to be, my tea shop, my favorite restaurant, my mimosa brunch place on the weekends, my refuge, my happy place. I am constantly creating and re-creating my home to be exactly what I need it to be for me at the time. As a freelance writer I spend majority of my time at home so my place has to be able to fit as many of my needs as possible while maintaining positive energy. Keep reading for 5 easy steps I follow to keep positive energy flowing in my home.

1. Clean as a whistle

I’ll admit it, my home is not always sparkling clean but I try to keep it as clean as possible. In order for me to function I have to have a clean home. It’s hard for me to get work done if I am smelling or seeing a full garbage that needs to be taken out, dishes piled high, clothes on the floor or anything else I view as dirty. Cleanliness brings positivity. It’s not easy to maintain good energy when you’re surrounded by nastiness. Clean your home as often as possible to keep the energy in your home as positive as possible.

2. Burn something

Many people believe that burning sage removes bad spirits and energy from their homes. Often times when people move into a new home or have guest over they sage their home or burn cedar sticks. I prefer the smell of cedar sticks so I burn them in my home when I’m preparing to have a deep discussion that I hope will go well. When burning sage or cedar be sure to open your windows to free your home of the negative energy.

3. Keep it simple

Clutter drives me crazy. Maintaining energy in a home that can be filled with items that don’t bring positivity is a no-no for me. Go around your home and look at or touch the items that occupy it and see what brings joy and what doesn’t. If you have a ton of clothes that you wore when you were with your ex, can no longer fit, or simply don’t make you happy, get rid of them. Don’t keep excess clutter in your home or things that you simply do not need or use. Pack up all the items you no longer have use for and give them to someone who can use and appreciate them. Freeing up your home will add more space, less clutter and clear your mind creating a more positive atmosphere in your home.

4. Add some greenery

I absolutely love plants. My grandmother use to have a ton of plants in her home and I always felt happy simply being over there. Many plants clean the oxygen making the air in your home more clean and have tons of health benefits as well. Most house plants literally only need water and sunlight to survive so taking care of them is not a full time job. In addition to the physical benefits, plants are beautiful and brighten up your home.

5. Open windows

I love opening my windows, blinds and balcony to simply let the fresh air in. Open windows make your home look bigger, cleaner and just add a level of freshness to the air that keeping your windows closed all the time, simply does not. If you’ve been in a bad mood or had company over with bad energy, it’s just going to circulate through your home. Get all of that bad juju out by opening your windows and perhaps even burning some sage or incense.
