Six tips to protect your edges

I think it’s safe to say most women change hairstyles more than 5 times a year. But sometimes we forget how important it is to take care of our hair in between hairstyles. Especially our edges because your edges are the most sensitive. Here are 6 simple ways to save your edges.

Moisturize 

It doesn’t matter what hairstyle you’re wearing, moisturize your hairline. Balancing moisture and protein in your hair is very important because it improves hair elasticity, which prevents breakage. 

Ponytails

If you’re pulling your hair back into a tight ponytail all the time, the tension can cause strands of your hair to break or pull out the root. A ponytail is one hairstyle you don’t want to keep in for long if you’re trying to hold on to your edges.

Parting

When braiding your hair, stay away from skinny parts near your hairline. Your parts should be big enough for your scalp to breathe during the course of the hairstyle. If you’re someone who loves wearing extensions, leave your edges out. If you do not tell your hairstylist to leave your edges out, when doing a weave installation they will braid your hair in with the rest of your braids. This is going to cause a lot of pulling and pain, damaging your edges.

Silk 

Taking better care of your hair means throwing away your bandana. Throw the whole bandana away. Bandanas soak all the moisture and oil out of your hair. The last thing you want is dry and brittle hair, causing your hair to fall out. If you want to hold on to your edges you might want to invest in a silk scarf, silk bonnets or silk pillowcases. Silk maintain the natural oils in your hair. It also reduces friction on your hair. Some women like satin bonnets and that’s fine. Silk or satin? we will leave that to your discretion. 

Glue

For those of you who wear lace fronts or full lace wigs, we don’t recommend glue at all. You may have seen ghost bond adhesive and got2b glued all over your timeline but truth be told it can damage your hairline. One way you can install your wig without damaging your edges is by using the elastic band method. It holds your wig in place with no glue necessary. Hair Vitamins
